So I was browsing the web today and I found something that made me shake my head. Apparently yesterday they started exterior demo on Yankee Stadium... so basically all season we have to watch it being ripped apart while we're attending games. The timing of this absolutely sucks and as hard as it is for me to look at these pictures, there is something about stadium demolition that I find interesting. I figured that this deserved it's own thread simply because people can have the option not to look at it.

Nobody is sure yet if anything will be preserved for heritage park, but as of now all this will be left of the stadium is a home plate monument and of course... the bat.

This is going to be strange because normally when a stadium is demolished it's a shitty ass stadium. I'm not comparing it to the new stadium and I'm not talking about the outside or the concourses but in the main stadium, Yankee Stadium was really nothing short of majestic.

I might chuckle a bit if a Burger King ends up on top of monument park lol.

Seriously though, why wasn’t this done already? If they redevelop the area around the stadium and try to make it more of a year round destination they could make an insane amount of money (as if they didn't already but you get the idea)

Because they weren't sure until about 3 weeks ago that the new Stadium would actually be ready for Opening Day. They had to keep the old one around just in case.

Link? I don't think they could ready Yankee Stadium in like a month to play?

They were saying that at the stadium tours actually. Given that the Yankees weren't moving out until late February, they were going to keep the stadium up until Citi Field and NYS were cleared for occupancy and completed.

I'm sure Billiam will be standing in front of the wrecking balls, arms stretch out from his sides in protest.

I don't have a link but he's correct. I heard the same thing multiple times and as recently as a week ago on WFAN.

""To stare down a big league pitcher. Stare him down & just as he goes into his windup, wink. Make him think you know somethin he doesnt. Thats what I wish for. Chance to squint at a sky so blue it hurts your eyes just to look at it. To feel the tingling in your arm as you connect with the ball. To run the bases, stretch a double into a triple & flop face-first into third, wrap your arms around the bag. Thats my wish"

I was like peace girl and the girl was like peace.

It's sad to see the old stadium go, but with the palace we have now... it makes it not so tough. I'm not that attached to the stadium. I'm just extremely grateful I was able to visit it the times I went, and ridiculously happy that we have one of the best stadiums in all of baseball to go to and watch new memories unfold.

So yeah they're starting to take out the outfield wall... I'm sure that's going to be for sale in sections.

The Team store is now the office for the demo crews.
