I can't stand Joe Buck and McCarver. I won't even talk about McCarver though because I'm pretty sure it's universally accepted he's fucking retarded and off his rocker. Joe Buck is as boring and as dull as humanly possible. He shows no emotion and when he said he doesn't watch baseball unless he's broadcasting it, it all comes together because he's fucking clueless. I agree that it's awesome when an announcer goes quiet after making a big call in a huge game but Buck never does it right, in large part because his calls before going quiet absolutely suck.
Joe Buck called the greatest play in Super Bowl history about as bland and awful as humanly possible. In one of the most boring and uninterested calls ever: "Eli Manning stays on his feet airs it out down field.....it is caught by Tyree." I think a Japanese Radio announcer could announce the bombing of Hiroshima with more excitement than that. Joe Buck called one of the greatest hits in Yankee History, Aaron Boone's HR, as "that might send the yankees to the world series, BOONE the hero of Game 7." Like most of us probably, I have no recollection of that call live because i was about 15 feet in the air, but Joe Buck still managed to do it in his faggy little voice while empshizing exactly one word and lacking any real excitement at all. Now compare that to a Gary Thorne's(whose actually a pretty terrible announcer) exciting call of Mattingly's home run in the '95 ALDS. "(before the pitch) The fans want a dinger out of him...This one by Mattingly, OH HANG ON TO THE ROOF...GOODBYE, HOME RUN! DON MATTINGLY!!!" Give me Gary Thorne and his rather shitty announcing 10 out of 10 times over the garbage Buck spews in big moments. I'm not saying I want a homer(I realize the examples I provided are teams I live and die with though) but at least show some freaking excitement when your in the booth. Sports are something that should be fun, serious, and exciting all mixed into one. With Joe Buck though you only get one aspect, serious. Joe Buck would be better suited for the Campbell Soup CEO job rather than the national head broadcast guy in America's two biggest sports. He is as boring and bland as soup. -------------------- ![]() "Winning is the most important thing in my life, after breathing. Breathing first, winning next."-The Boss |
